President Clinton signed the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) into law on October 28, 1998. Two 1996 World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) treaties—the WIPO Copyright Treaty and the WIPO Performances and Phonograms Treaty—are put into effect by this legislation. A number of other important copyright-related issues are also addressed by the DMCA.
